2050 Furniture was established as an independent company in February 2026 to further develop and scale a circular and socially inclusive production model where local resources, design, and inclusion create value together.

The 2050 Furniture model has been carefully designed and developed by FjordMoods over years as a new approach to furniture production rooted in circularity and social impact.

While 2050 Furniture will focus on industrializing and scaling the model through new local production hubs across Norway and internationally, FjordMoods will continue as an independent company dedicated to exploring new products, concepts, and regenerative business models for the future.

The board of 2050 Furniture share a commitment to regenerative industry, social inclusion, and long-term value creation.

The board represents a combination of experience from design, industry, strategy, social engagement and entrepreneurship.

The ambition is to help build a new kind of furniture industry for the future.

What is the 2050 Furniture model?

2050 Furniture is a sustainable furniture production model developed by FjordMoods, a Norwegian furniture company focused on ecology, ethical production, and circular design.

The model is designed by Pieter Van Tulder, who founded the company 2050 Furniture in 2026 together with Katrine Van Tulder.

What makes 2050 Furniture different from conventional furniture producers?

2050 Furniture is rooted in care for nature, people, and the future. The production model is based on waste wood as a resource. Instead of sourcing wood from forests or timber plantations, 2050 Furniture reclaims and upcycles material that would otherwise be discarded.

The production philosophy prioritizes:
• Preservation of natural ecosystems and virgin resources
• Upcycling of waste materials
• Local production
• Inclusive workplaces
• Decentralized manufacturing
• Minimal production waste
• Flat-pack, repairable furniture

Does 2050 Furniture use wood from forests?

No.

2050 Furniture does not source wood from forests or timber plantations.

The company’s philosophy is that forests should be protected rather than treated as commodities.

Instead, the production is based on discarded wood from local waste streams.

What materials are used in the furniture?

The furniture is made from locally wasted wood.
The production embraces a wide diversity of wood types found in the waste streams.

Wood that has no structural value in the building industry, is upcycled through lamination and innovative production techniques, and turned into a strong base material for furniture.

How is the furniture designed?

Pieter Van Tulder's design process begins with solving structural waste problems rather than simply creating new aesthetic products.

Each piece of furniture from 2050 Furniture is intentionally designed to:

• Be made with reclaimed wood

• Reduce manufacturing waste

• Be produced in a social inclusive process

What does inclusive production mean?

Inclusive production means valuing both materials and people that are often overlooked.

2050 Furniture creates work opportunities for people with sensitivities or special workplace needs and integrates them into the production process as equal contributors.

The company combines a gentle, human-centered workflow with efficient CNC-based manufacturing technology.

How is the furniture from 2050 Furniture produced?

Instead of operating one large centralized factory, 2050 Furniture collaborates with local companies, using local infrastructure.
2050 Furniture's first production hub is running in Western Norway, producing the Sondre chair
• The waste management company Bir supplies wood for the production.

• The social enterprise Hardanger AKS, which provides work training and permanent supported employment, upcycles the wood and produces semi-finished components for the Sondre chair.

• The interior manufacturer Faginnredning mills the final parts of the chair and prepares it for the market.
This cooperative model supports local economies while reducing transportation and environmental impact.

How does the production process reduce waste?

The process is specifically designed to maximize material efficiency.

Small and thin pieces of reclaimed wood are laminated together into larger structural components. By carefully designing these laminations before CNC cutting, the company controls and drastically reduces production waste compared to conventional furniture manufacturing.

What role does technology play in production?

The production process combines two complementary stages:

1. A slower, sensitive, human-centered recycling and preparation stage

2. A fast and automated CNC manufacturing stage

This balance allows the company to maintain both social responsibility and production efficiency.

Is the furniture locally produced?

Yes.

All furniture is produced locally using:

• Locally reclaimed wood

• Local suppliers

• Local infrastructure

This creates a short production chain and supports smaller communities.

What is 2050 Furniture’s long-term vision?

2050 Furniture aims to challenge conventional furniture production and inspire industries across sectors to see waste as a valuable resource and question conventional production methods.
